On account of a hearth this week at Citgo Petroleum Co.’s Lemont refinery, a tower that separates crude oil into varied grades of gas at the plant collapsed early Friday morning, company officials stated.
The distillation tower damaged by Tuesday’s fireplace toppled about 2:30 a.m. petroleum equipment company Friday, stated Citgo spokesman Kent Young. Nobody was injured, and Citgo officials stated they didn’t believe the collapse posed any further environmental hazard.
