The entire commercial income that we get from petroleum products is about 35 per cent of the overall tax (business) that government collects.
“Subsequently, it’s tough for us to convey it under the GST as we need funds for operating the government, growth and to satisfy our social obligations,” state finance minister, Jayant Mallaiya told reporters.
Nevertheless, the minister, who admitted that the speed of tax (VAT and entry tax) on petroleum products in the state is on the upper side additionally gave a justification for it.
“States like Gujarat and Maharashtra get ample income from industrial manufacturing, nevertheless it was not the case with Madhya Pradesh as industrial actions are less right here.
Therefore, for earning enough funds (revenue) we have to levy tax on petroleum products,” Mallaiya mentioned.
Mallaiya mentioned he was satisfied with the implementation of GST within the state and the GST Council on the idea of state’s suggestions is constantly reforming it.
